OpenAI and AMD (AMD) have formed a multibillion-dollar partnership for AI data centers, with OpenAI committing to purchase 6 gigawatts of AMD’s MI450 chips, The Wall Street Journal’s Robbie Whelan and Berber Jin report. Under the terms of the deal, OpenAI will receive warrants for up to 160 million AMD shares, about 10% of the company, at 1c per share, tied to deployment milestones. The five-year deal is AMD’s largest success in challenging Nvidia’s (NVDA) dominance in AI semiconductors, with the first gigawatt online by the second half of next year.
