The Association of American Railroads or AAR reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending February 11. For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 473,972 carloads and intermodal units, down 6.2% compared with the same week last year. Total carloads for the week ending February 11 were 233,382 carloads, down 1.6% compared with the same week in 2022, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 240,590 containers and trailers, down 10.2% compared to 2022. North American rail volume for the week ending February 11, on 12 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads totaled 335,732 carloads, up 1.4% compared with the same week last year, and 316,515 intermodal units, down 9.8% compared with last year. Total combined weekly rail traffic in North America was 652,247 carloads and intermodal units, down 4.3%. North American rail volume for the first six weeks of 2023 was 3,812,418 carloads and intermodal units, down 1.8% compared with 2022.
