The Nintendo Switch (NTDOY) sold 1.3M units during the first six months of the year in Japan, a 31% year-over-year decline from the 1.9M units sold during the same period of 2023, Gamesindustry.biz’s Sophie McEvoy reports, citing data from Famitsu. Square Enix’s (SQNXF) “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” was the top-selling physical game of 1H24 in the country, having sold an estimate 339,168 copies on PlayStation 5 (SONY), while Nintendo’s “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” came in second place with over 328,000 units sold, the author notes. Meanwhile, for the month of June, Nintendo’s “Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD” debuted in first place in Japan with 88,425 units sold, pushing “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door” to second place with 77,493 units sold, the author says.
