NHTSA investigates Hyundai, Kia recalls into 6.4M vehicles, Reuters reports

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it has opened an investigation into 16 separate recalls issued by Hyundai (HYMTF) and Kia (KIMTF) covering 6.4M vehicles over brake fluid leaks that could lead to fires, Reuters’ David Shepardson reports. The car makers have issued a number of recalls since 2016 for faulty antilock braking system and Hydraulic Electronic Control Units, both of which were manufactured by the same parts supplier, the author notes. NHTSA said it is opening a review to evaluate the timelines of the Korean automakers’ decision making on the recalls, the author says.
