Microsoft is changing a group of subcontracted temporary workers into unionized employees, Bloomberg’s Josh Eidelson reports. In January, the Xbox maker agreed to collectively bargain with ZeniMax Workers United, an affiliate of the Communications Workers of America union that represented about 300 quality assurance staff at a Microsoft-owned video game studio, the author says, noting that union contract talks have been underway since April. As part of such negotiations, Microsoft recently agreed that a group of 77 contract workers doing similar work would become employees recognized by ZeniMax Workers United, the author says.
