Meta approved AI-manipulated Facebook ads during India’s election that spread disinformation and incited religious violence, The Guardian’s Hannah Ellis-Petersen reports. Ads containing the AI-manipulated images were submitted to Facebook by civil and corporate accountability groups to test Meta‘s mechanisms for detecting and blocking political content, according to the report.
