Washington is demanding Taiwan move investment and chip production to the U.S. so half of American demand is manufactured locally, Bloomberg’s Debby Wu and Edwin Chan report. The U.S. aims to get to “maybe 50% market share of producing the chip and the wafers for American consumption,” according to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The U.S. has held discussions with Taipei to reduce the risks of over-reliance, with Lutnick arguing it’s the only way to effectively counter Beijing’s threats to invade Taiwan. Publicly traded companies in the space include AMD (AMD), Intel (INTC), Marvell (MRVL), Microchip (MCHP), Micron (MU), Nvidia (NVDA), Qualcomm (QCOM) and Texas Instruments (TXN).
