Cheaper alternatives to Lululemon’s (LULU) leggings, known as “dupes” or duplicates, are becoming popular among the younger TikTok crowd, Suzanne Kapner of Wall Street Journal reports. This is becoming a problem for the company that pioneered high-end athleisure and made $100 leggings the norm, according to Kapner. A 22 year-old college student told the paper she now buys her leggings on Amazon (AMZN) for about $30, with the quality and fit is almost identical. “The heightened competition comes as Lululemon has made a series of missteps that have turned off even some of its most devoted fans,” writes the Journal.
