KKR (KKR) is preparing a bid for Spectris, a U.K. maker of high-tech equipment and software, according to people familiar with the matter, The Wall Street Journal’s Miriam Gottfried and Ben Dummett report. The private-equity giant would be bidding against rival Advent International, which submitted a proposal valuing Spectris at about $5B, the company confirmed.
