Shares of InterDigital (IDCC), which has a portfolio of tens of thousands of U.S. and foreign issued patents and patent applications, were slipping after the Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration is considering a plan to raise tens of billions of dollars with a new fee that would overhaul the patent system. Officials at the Commerce Department are weighing charging patent holders 1%-5% of their overall patent value, a change that could boost fees, people familiar with the matter told the Journal. InterDigital shares are down about 3% in afternoon trading.
