IBM is near to a deal to acquire Apptio for about $5B from Vista Equity Partners, Laura Cooper and Lauren Thomas of Wall Street Journal report, citing people familiar with the matter. The companies are in advanced talks and a deal could be finalized over the weekend, sources told the Journal. Apptio is a major player in helping companies manage what they spend on technology, an area IBM has been seeking to grow in, according to the paper.
