China’s efforts to match U.S. computing power in artificial intelligence are being hampered by bug-ridden software, with many customers of Huawei complaining of performance issues and difficulties switching from Nvidia products (NVDA), Eleanor Olcott, Ryan McMorrow, and Tina Hu of The Financial Times reports. Huawei has emerged as the frontrunner in the race to develop a domestic alternative in China to Nvidia after Washington tightened export controls. The company’s chips, however, are still far behind Nvidia’s initial training of models, several industry insiders and an AI engineer at a partner company told the Times.
