Google, NextEra partner to restart Iowa nuclear plant, Fox Business reports

Google (GOOGL) and NextEra Energy (NEE) are partnering to restart the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Palo, Iowa, the only nuclear power plant in the state, a move targeted at meeting the growing energy demands of AI, Fox Business’ Kristen Altus reports. The facility is slated to reopen by 2029 after closing in 2020, primarily to power the search giant’s AI and cloud operations with clean, round-the-clock nuclear energy, the author says. “Google’s partnership with NextEra to reopen the Duane Arnold Energy Center will deliver nuclear energy and create more than 1,600 direct, indirect and induced jobs for the plant’s construction and hundreds of permanent roles, contributing more than $340 million to Iowa’s economy each year,” Alphabet (GOOG) and Google’s President and Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat said.
