Billionaire Jim Ratcliffe is emerging as the frontrunner to buy into Manchester United and the chairman of Ineos is in talks with the club’s owners, the Glazer family, and their advisers over the structure of a deal that would see Ratcliffe make an offer for some of the shares held by both the Glazers and minority investors in the team, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg’s David Hellier, Daniele Lepido and Gile Turner. The Glazer family currently views Ratcliffe’s bid, which could see the billionaire initially wind up with a stake of roughly 25% in a deal that could value the club as more than $6.1B, as more attractive than a Qatari offer for the whole team, though the rival Qatari bidding group could still increase its offer, the report added.
