The Federal Trade Commission argued in court that Kroger’s (KR) plans to takeover Albertsons (ACI) would eliminate competition at the expense of consumers and employees, the New York Times’ Danielle Kaye reports, citing the proceedings. The agency said less competition would give Kroger more leverage to increase prices on millions of customers as the supermarket chains defended the $24.6B deal, contending it would boost leverage with suppliers and improve competition with major retailers.
