At least five airlines, including Allegiant Air, American Airlines (AAL), Delta Air Lines (DAL), Spirit Airlines (SAVE), and United Airlines (UAL) have issued ground stops after a worldwide tech outage disrupted its flights and stranded passengers, Derrick Taylor of The New York Times says, citing the Federal Aviation Administration. “The F.A.A. is closely monitoring a technical issue impacting IT systems at U.S. airlines,” the agency said in a statement. “Several airlines have requested F.A.A. assistance with ground stops for their fleets until the issue is resolved.” It is not yet clear how long the ground stops are expected to last.
