When people think of plastics, they might not think first of chemical companies. Though we call them chemical companies, many are really just plastics companies, Al Root writes in this week’s edition of Barron’s. Dow (DOW), for instance, makes chemicals with names like propylene oxide, propylene glycol, polyether polyols, ethylene dichloride, and vinyl chloride monomer that are all used to manufacture packaging, industrial parts, and even latex for paint, which is, after all, liquid plastic. The author names six chemicals and plastics companies worth a look, namely Dow, LyondellBasell (LYB), Celanese (CE), Berry Global (BERY), Origin Materials (ORGN), and Univar Solutions (UNVR).
