China is pulling back on its use of Nokia (NOK) and Ericsson (ERIC) in its networks as President Xi Jinping looks to separate the country’s tech infrastructure from the west, Ryan McMorrow and Kieran Smith of The Financial Times reports. The process has required contracts by Ericsson and Nokia to be submitted for “black box” national security reviews by the Cyberspace Administration of China, with reviews lasting for three months or longer. Even if approved, the lengthy and uncertain audits leave the companies at a disadvantage to their less scrutinized Chinese rivals, two people familiar with the matter said.
