The 135,500-ton Adora Magic City, China’s first home built large cruise ship began its commercial maiden voyage, Chan Ho-him, Thomas Hale, and Oliver Barnes wrote for the Financial Times. The ship was commissioned by a joint venture between the China State Shipbuilding and U.S. based leisure travel services company Carnival Corp (CCL), added the FT. According to the FT story, China is motivated to challenge “the dominance of European shipbuilders in the cruise sector.” Other companies in the cruise ship sector include: Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) and Disney (DIS) and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH).
