The lawyers who won a verdict against the National Association of Realtors and brokerage firms named Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway as a defendant in one of its lawsuits, Laura Kusisto and Nicole Friedman of The Wall Street Journal reports. Back in October, plaintiffs won a $1.8B verdict after alleging the NAR and two brokerages, one of which being HomeServices of America, used a commission structure to keep fees for Missouri agents artificially high. HomeServices of America is owned by Berkshire Hathaway Energy, which is subsequentially 92% owned by Berkshire Hathway. Naming Berkshire Hathway Energy as a new defendant could put pressure on HomeServices and Berkshire to reach a large nationwide settlement.
