BP CEO Bernard Looney is doubling down on hydrogen to power future low-carbon businesses as large governments stump up cash to develop the fuel, Reuters’ Ron Bousso reports. While low-carbon hydrogen already has its supporters and is expected to play a major role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it is expensive to produce and often requires government support to compete against fossil fuels, the author notes. Tomeka McLeod, BP‘s newly-appointed head of hydrogen in the United States, told Reuters that the company has been quick to react and is in the early planning stages to develop a big, low-carbon hydrogen hub around its Whiting, Indiana refinery.
