"Box Office Battle" is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.
Marvel and Disney’s (DIS) “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” opened to a big $180M at the domestic box office. Overseas, the superhero sequel earned $150M in its debut for a global start of $330M. “Wakanda Forever” ranks number 13 on the all-time list of domestic launches, according to ComScore.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: DC and Warner Bros.’ (WBD) “Black Adam” placed number 2 with $8.6M for a domestic total of $151.1M. Behind it was Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal Pictures’ “Ticket to Paradise” with another $6.1M for a domestic tally of $56.5M and $150M globally. Sony’s (SONY) “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” placed number 4 with $3.2M for a domestic cume of $40.8M. Rounding out the top five, Paramount’s (PARA) horror movie “Smile” earned an estimated $2.3M.
