"Box Office Battle" is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.
Disney’s (DIS) “Avatar: The Way of Water” won this weekend at the North American box office with an estimated $15.7M from 3,600 locations for a domestic total of $621M. James Cameron sequel is now the fourth top grossing film of all time at the global box office. Overseas, “The Way of Water” earned another $42.4M for a foreign cume of $1.496B.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” placed number 2 with another $10.6M from 3,452 theaters. Behind it was Sony’s (SONY) “A Man Called Otto” with $6.8M. Universal’s “M3GAN” placed number 4 with an estimated $6.4M from 3,416 locations. Rounding out the top five, “Pathaan” grossed $5.9M in its debut weekend.
