President Joe Biden plans to express serious concern over Nippon Steel’s proposed purchase of U.S. Steel, a move that could threaten the deal’s progress and anger Japan, one of Washington’s closest allies, Financial Times’ Demetri Sevastopulo and Kana Inagaki report. Biden is expected to issue a statement about the Japanese group’s proposed $14.9B acquisition of the steelmaker before Prime Minister Fumio Kishida arrives for a state visit in Washington on April 18, according to six people familiar with the decision.
