The White House is preparing to seek congressional clearance for a $20B sale of new F-16 jet fighters to Turkey, as well as a separate sale of next-generation F-35 jets to Greece, the Wall Street Journal’s Jared Malsin and Vivian Salama report, citing U.S. officials. The sale of the Lockheed Martin-made aircraft to Turkey, which the Biden administration has been weighing for over a year, is bigger than expected, and includes 40 new planes and kits to overhaul 79 of Turkey’s existing F-16 fleet, the authors say, citing officials familiar with the proposals. Congressional notification of the sale will roughly coincide with Turkey Foreign Minister’s Mevlut Cavusoglu’s visit to D.C. next week, the authors note. Reference Link
