Apple ends in-house microLED screen effort for watches, Bloomberg reports

In recent weeks, Apple has ceased an in-house effort to create screens with microLED technology for smartwatch displays, putting an end to “another pricey research and development initiative, reported Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, citing people with knowledge of the matter. The move to shutter the project came around the same time as the company’s decision to cancel work on a self-driving car and in both cases Apple is giving at least some affected employees the opportunity to find other roles within the company. However, if they cannot, the workers will be laid off and provided severance, the report said.
