AbbVie paid health care providers $145.7M in 2023 to promote its drugs, vastly outpacing rivals the most a pharmaceutical company has spent on marketing to doctors since such data became available in 2017, Nicholas Florko and J. Emory Parker of STAT reports, citing an analysis of newly released government data. The figure includes compensation for consulting and other services like speaking fees, lodging and travel for doctors, and meals, as well as a small number of payments made directly to hospitals, the website says.
