Stock Heatmap Today: XOM Leads Energy, Technology Little Changed

Stock indices had a volatile day today, finishing higher despite a negative start to the day. Using TipRanks’ Heatmap Tool, we can visualize the performance of each stock within the S&P 500’s (SPX) 11 separate sectors. The image below highlights the impressive performance of the energy sector, which saw its biggest constituent, Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM), gain 3.5% in today’s trading. On the other hand, the largest stocks among the S&P 500 were little changed, as the tech sector is mostly grey.
