xAI, the AI company founded by Elon Musk, has launched a stand-alone iOS app for its chatbot, Grok, expanding its availability beyond the X platform. Previously accessible only to X users, Grok is now live in multiple countries, including the United States, Australia, and India. This strategic move allows xAI to tap into a broader user base and enhance its market presence. The app offers features such as real-time web data access, text rewriting, paragraph summarization, Q&A capabilities, and image generation from text prompts, positioning Grok as a versatile AI assistant.
In addition to the app, xAI is developing a dedicated website, Grok.com, to further increase accessibility. The site is currently in the ‘coming soon’ phase, indicating xAI’s commitment to expanding Grok’s reach. Initially, Grok was available only to paying subscribers of X, but a free version was tested in November and has since been rolled out to all users. The chatbot’s image generator is noted for its photorealistic rendering capabilities, with minimal restrictions on image creation, allowing users to generate images using public figures and copyrighted material. These developments signify xAI’s strategic efforts to broaden its user engagement and leverage its AI technology in the competitive chatbot market.
