Truveta has introduced a pioneering study in ‘Radiology Advances’ showcasing its multimodal deep learning model, XComposition, which estimates body composition using chest radiographs and basic clinical data. This innovative approach leverages artificial intelligence to measure critical metrics such as visceral and subcutaneous fat volumes, traditionally assessed through costly and resource-intensive CT scans. By integrating chest X-rays with four simple clinical variables—age, sex at birth, height, and weight—Truveta’s model offers a scalable, low-cost alternative that could significantly enhance screening and patient care. The research, involving over 1,100 patients from various Truveta member health systems, underscores the potential of AI in transforming medical diagnostics and improving health outcomes.
The study utilized Truveta Data, a comprehensive dataset of de-identified electronic health records from leading US health systems, to develop and validate this AI model.
