Ro, a leader in direct-to-patient healthcare, has unveiled the ‘Ro Allison Indiana Dhurandhar Food Noise’ (RAID-FN) Inventory, a novel tool designed to quantify ‘food noise’—persistent, unwanted thoughts about food. This scale, developed in collaboration with top obesity researchers, aims to provide a clinically validated measure that can aid patients, healthcare providers, and researchers in understanding the impact of food noise on individuals’ lives. According to Ro’s CEO, Zach Reitano, the RAID-FN scale addresses a significant gap in obesity treatment by offering a scientific basis for experiences that many patients report as barriers to achieving their health goals.
The RAID-FN scale is the culmination of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary effort that involved experts from nutrition, psychology, and obesity medicine. It translates the subjective experience of food noise into a clear, three-factor measure that evaluates the preoccupation with food, its persistence, and the associated emotional distress. The scale’s development and validation are detailed in peer-reviewed articles, establishing its reliability and alignment with related psychological constructs. Ro is already applying the RAID-FN scale in its telehealth services for obesity treatment and plans to present findings at ObesityWeek® 2025. Additionally, the scale is being utilized in clinical trials to assess treatments for binge-eating disorder and other weight loss interventions. This initiative positions Ro at the forefront of advancing obesity research and treatment, offering new insights and potential therapeutic pathways for managing food noise.
