Postman, a prominent platform for API development, is making significant strides into the AI domain with the introduction of its AI agent builder. This new tool integrates large language models with Postman’s existing API platform, accompanied by a visual editor designed to enable even non-developers to construct and test AI agents. This strategic move aligns with the growing demand from Postman’s user base, which includes a substantial number of non-developers seeking to create simple, API-focused applications. CEO Abhinav Asthana highlighted that the integration of APIs is crucial for the functionality of AI agents, as they need to interact with a variety of services.
Postman’s API network, featuring contributions from over 18,000 companies, now supports the development of AI agents capable of interacting with these APIs. To ensure optimal performance, Postman is incorporating testing and evaluation tools to assess prompts and inputs for supported models, such as those from OpenAI and Google. Users can utilize Postman Flows, the company’s visual development environment, to build these agents. While the current focus is on back-end operations, future developments may expand to include front-end services. Asthana believes Postman can distinguish itself from large cloud providers by offering a superior developer experience. The company is still determining the pricing model for this service, which will evolve as the team assesses the value these agents provide.
