OpenAI’s ChatGPT is experiencing significant growth, with the company reporting that the app is set to reach 700 million weekly active users. This milestone follows a previous achievement of 500 million weekly users by the end of March, as noted by Nick Turley, OpenAI’s VP and head of ChatGPT’s app. Turley highlighted the app’s quadruple growth over the past year, attributing this success to the platform’s ability to facilitate learning, creativity, and problem-solving for users worldwide.

The surge in popularity is largely attributed to the introduction of an enhanced image-generation feature powered by the GPT-4 model, launched in March. This feature alone led to over 130 million users creating more than 700 million images shortly after its release, according to OpenAI’s COO, Brad Lightcap. Additionally, the company has witnessed a rise in its subscriber base, with ChatGPT’s paying business users increasing to 5 million, up from 3 million in June. A report by Sensor Tower further underscores ChatGPT’s engagement, noting that users are active on the app for more than 12 days a month on average, positioning it just behind major platforms like Google and X. These developments not only enhance OpenAI’s market position but also indicate a robust user engagement trajectory, which could have significant financial implications for the company moving forward.
