Multifactor Develops Verifiable Cloud Infrastructure Tool With Plans to Open Source

According to a recent LinkedIn post from Multifactor, the company is developing a system called Notary to enhance verification of its backend infrastructure. The post explains that Multifactor currently relies on Cloudflare Workers for speed and trusted execution environments (TEEs) for verifiable security, each with distinct performance and scalability trade-offs.

The company’s LinkedIn post highlights that Notary is designed to combine the strengths of TEEs and Workers by creating an auditable link between deployed code and its cryptographic attestations. One TEE builds a commit, deploys it to Cloudflare, and signs a record of what was uploaded, while a second TEE later validates that all live Worker versions correspond to signed records and issues fresh signed claims tying domains to commits.

The post suggests that this architecture could enable use cases such as releasing cryptographic keys only to specific code commits and operating shared services without fully shared trust among parties. It also mentions potential applications in AI, where agents could automatically verify the server-side code of tools before sending credentials, pointing to emerging demand for machine-verifiable infrastructure security.

As shared in the LinkedIn post, Multifactor plans to open source Notary, which may signal a strategic focus on ecosystem adoption rather than purely proprietary monetization. For investors, this move could strengthen the firm’s reputation within the developer and security communities, potentially driving integration, partnerships, and long-term demand for associated commercial services or enterprise offerings.

From an industry perspective, the initiative reflects growing interest in verifiable computing and secure infrastructure for AI and cloud-native workloads. If Notary gains traction as a standard or is integrated by other platforms, Multifactor could see enhanced strategic positioning in the cloud security and identity space, which may have implications for future revenue opportunities and competitive differentiation.
