Deterministic Single-Atom Photon Source Signals Progress in Quantum Communications

According to a recent LinkedIn post from Quantum Scan Holdings, portfolio company Quantum Source and Israel’s DDR&D (MAFAT) have demonstrated deterministic generation of entangled photon pairs using a single rubidium atom in a microscopic optical cavity. The post notes that these photons, produced in the singlet Bell state, maintain entanglement fidelity over more than 1 km of unstabilized fiber without active calibration.

The LinkedIn post suggests this approach could simplify deployment of quantum key distribution, quantum repeaters, and distributed quantum computing by removing the need for constant fiber stabilization. For investors, the development points to potential defensible intellectual property and an enabling technology for scalable quantum communication networks, which could strengthen Quantum Scan Holdings’ positioning in deep-tech and quantum infrastructure markets over the medium to long term.
