Brightspeed has announced a significant achievement in its mission to enhance rural broadband connectivity, securing $528.2 million in federal funding through the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program. This funding will enable the company to extend its high-speed fiber internet services to an additional 182,900 locations across 17 states, including Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and South Carolina. The latest allocation of $181 million will specifically target 90,852 homes and businesses in these states, furthering Brightspeed’s commitment to bridging the digital divide in underserved areas.
The company’s strategic expansion is supported by both the BEAD program and nearly $294.6 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, which will bring high-speed internet to over 140,000 Americans in 13 states. Brightspeed’s Executive Chairman & CEO, Michel Combes, emphasized the transformative impact of these investments, highlighting the opportunities for education, business growth, and healthcare access that reliable internet can provide. With an ongoing investment in next-generation fiber networks, Brightspeed aims to reach over five million homes and businesses, building on its current footprint of 2.5 million locations. This initiative not only underscores Brightspeed’s role in enhancing digital infrastructure but also its commitment to empowering communities and local economies through improved connectivity.
