Elon Musk, the richest man on Earth, has several avatars. He is the CEO of electric vehicle maker Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), owns the rocket company SpaceX, and started an underground tunnel business, The Boring Co. His new plan is to sell a perfume bottle worth $100, labeled “Burnt Hair.”

Musk debuted the perfume on Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) on Tuesday night. Within hours, he had sold 10,000 bottles, adding $1 million worth of revenue to the Boring Co., the website on which it is sold, again proving the billionaire’s unparalleled fandom. Along with the launch, Musk also tweeted, “With a name like mine, getting into the fragrance business was inevitable—why did I even fight it for so long!?”
The Boring Co. advertises the perfume as “The Essence of Repugnant Desire.” Although the perfume is not expected to be shipped until early next year, followers are buying it with unmatched enthusiasm. If Musk’s latest tweet is anything to go by, he just quoted the number “20,000,” which could mean that the Burnt Hair bottle sales have exploded.
As usual in his gimmicky tone, Musk also pleaded with the Twitterati to buy his perfume so that he might use the proceeds to purchase Twitter. His ongoing legal battle to buy the microblogging site has been in the spotlight lately. The deal is currently on hold until October 28, at Musk’s request, giving him more time to complete the buyout.
Meanwhile, Tesla shares continue to bear the brunt as the possibility of Musk selling more stock to finance the Twitter buyout remains unclear. The stock has lost 45.7% so far this year.
