Lionel Messi’s MLS Debut Boosts Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) Subscriptions

Tech giant Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) got a subscription boost courtesy of Lionel Messi’s arrival in Major League Soccer (MLS). According to a Wall Street Journal report, citing data from subscription analytics company Antenna, the MLS Season Pass witnessed over 110,000 new U.S. sign-ups after Messi’s debut with Inter Miami. This was a remarkable increase from the prior day’s 6,143 sign-ups.

This was a huge jump from the day when the MLS Season Pass became available and the opening day of the season. According to Antenna, Apple also experienced a boost in subscriptions to its $6.99 per month Apple TV+ streaming service in July.

This data indicates that Apple’s $2.5 billion MLS deal appears to be paying off, offering exclusive content amid growing competition in the streaming space. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook indicated the same on the company’s earnings call last month, “We are beating our expectation in terms of subscribers, and the fact that Messi went to Inter Miami helped us out there a bit.”

Analysts are cautiously optimistic about AAPL stock, with a Moderate Buy consensus rating based on 22 Buys and eight Holds.
