The incident has resulted in a flight attendant being injured, a cockpit being damaged, and part of a wing being torn in what the airline described as a “low-speed collision.” An aircraft carrying 32 people was preparing for takeoff at LaGuardia when its wing hit the fuselage of an aircraft arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina with 61 people onboard.

A flight attendant had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to a statement from the Port Authority of New York. There were no reports of passengers being injured in the incident, said Delta Air Lines in a written statement.

Aviation Safety

Images of the damage that are being circulated by the media show the broken wing on one plane while the other plane’s cockpit window appears to be shattered and its nose cone broken. Delta stressed that its airport operations in New York are not affected by the collision.

This latest incident follows several airline crashes, collisions, and close calls across America this year as analysts warn of rising airport congestion and outdated air traffic control systems. Earlier this year, the U.S. experienced the deadliest plane crash in decades when an airliner collided with an Army helicopter.
