Nasdaq (NDAQ) announced the changes as part of its June quarterly rebalance. The five companies will be added to the index before the market opens on Monday, June 22.

The companies being removed from the index are Charter Communications (CHTR), Cognizant Technology (CTSH), Insmed Corp. (INSM), Verisk Analytics (VRSK), and Zscaler (ZS).

Why NDX Inclusion Matters

The NDX consists of 100 of the largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange. The index is rebalanced quarterly to ensure its constituents continue to meet eligibility requirements.

Inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 can be beneficial for companies. The index is tracked by hundreds of funds with billions of dollars in assets. Index funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and other investment vehicles that track the NDX must buy shares of newly added companies when they rebalance their portfolios.

As a result, stocks added to the index often see higher trading activity and more buying in the short-term around the time of inclusion.
