Comcast Pulls the Value Card: Comcast Stock (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Slips

Comcast Pulls the Value Card: Comcast Stock (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Slips
Story Highlights
  • Comcast has a plan to win T-Mobile subscribers.
  • Comcast’s Universal ramps up the value with a new unlimited ticket deal.

Value is a big part of life these days. When you cannot get out of a fast-food drive-thru for less than $10 anymore and have a hope of eating anything that seems like a meal, saving a few bucks wherever you can becomes a surprising priority. Entertainment giant Comcast (CMCSA) seems to have picked that up, and is rolling out the red carpet for value. Investors seemed oddly displeased by this development, and sent Comcast shares down fractionally in Thursday morning’s trading.

Comcast is trying to breathe life into its Xfinity Mobile solution, which is a bit of a challenge given how many other mobile providers are currently in the market. But Comcast smelled an opportunity with some recent moves at T-Mobile (TMUS). T-Mobile canceled a few legacy wireless plans, and shuffled its users to other plans automatically. But that means a price hike, as much as $6 a month. Comcast wants to take the opportunity presented to appeal to those impacted customers.

Thus, Comcast brought out a new plan, offering free Xfinity Mobile service for a year to T-Mobile customers interested in being former T-Mobile customers. Xfinity Mobile’s Mobile Select plan typically runs $30 a month, which is actually an improvement over the T-Mobile Essentials plan for $60 a month for one line.

Universal Gets in on the Act

Meanwhile, the Universal side of Comcast also got in on the value fun, rolling out a new, unlimited ticket offer. Sadly, the offer only applies to Florida residents, so those planning a trip from anywhere else will be a bit out in the cold. But for those residents, you get a serious potential win here. Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure attendees can get access to the 2-Park Unlimited Days Florida Resident Ticket, which opens up unlimited access to both parks for $199.

The ticket is good from right now until December 16, so while it may not cover Christmas Day itself, it will cover pretty much everything else. There are no blackout dates connected to this offer, either, so the field is pretty open. For those who want to spend a lot of time in the parks and do it comparatively inexpensively, this might be just the thing for you.

Is Comcast Stock a Good Buy Right Now?

Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on CMCSA stock based on six Buys, 10 Holds, and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 34.53% loss in its share price over the past year, the average CMCSA price target of $32.21 per share implies 39.15% upside potential.
