BNB Chain’s Official X Account Hacked as CZ Warns Users about Phishing Links

BNB Chain’s (BNB-USD) official X account was hacked on Wednesday, exposing nearly four million followers to phishing links designed to drain wallets. Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao confirmed the breach and urged users not to click or connect their wallets to any suspicious prompts.

“The hacker posted a bunch of links to phishing websites that ask for Wallet Connect. Do NOT connect your wallet,” CZ wrote. He added that BNB Chain’s security team has already filed takedown requests and is working with X to suspend the account and restore control.

Phishing Links Mimic Wallet Connect

According to SlowMist’s chief security officer, known as 23pds, the attackers disguised the domains by swapping letters to make them appear authentic. One example changed the letter “i” into “l,” a common tactic in phishing campaigns.

23pds said the domains are tied to the Inferno Drainer group, a phishing-as-a-service operation that has been active since 2022. Inferno provides ready-made wallet-draining sites to affiliates, allowing them to mimic trusted crypto brands and steal funds.

He also criticized BNB Chain’s internal defenses. “The BNB Chain team’s security awareness shouldn’t be this poor,” 23pds posted.

CZ Urges Users to Double-Check Domains

While the malicious posts have since been removed, Zhao warned that users must remain cautious. He told the community to always verify web domains, even when links appear on official or verified social accounts. “Always check the domains very carefully, even from official X handles. Stay SAFU!” he wrote.

It remains unclear whether any users lost funds during the attack. A BNB Chain team member said an internal investigation is underway and that updates will be shared as more details emerge.

Despite the news, BNB coin is up 2% in the past 24 hours. At the time of writing, BNB is sitting at $1,030.97.
