Anthropic Releases Its Newest AI Model, Claude Sonnet 4.5

AI firm Anthropic released its newest AI model, Claude Sonnet 4.5, which is now available to all users. The model is designed to be better at coding, using computers, and handling real-world business tasks. It also performs strongly in specialized areas, such as cybersecurity, finance, and research. Backed by Amazon (AMZN), Anthropic says that Claude Sonnet 4.5 is the “best coding model in the world,” based on industry benchmarks like SWE-bench Verified, which measures how well an AI can solve software problems.

Jared Kaplan, who is Anthropic’s co-founder and Chief Science Officer, told CNBC that people are finding Claude Sonnet 4.5 smarter and almost like a co-worker when it comes to solving problems. Indeed, the model creates higher-quality code, makes better suggestions, and follows instructions more accurately. In addition, Mike Krieger, Anthropic’s Chief Product Officer, said that Claude Sonnet 4.5 will be the default option and is recommended for nearly every task, although paid users can still choose other models if needed.

Interestingly, Claude Sonnet 4.5 can also run autonomously for 30 hours, compared to just seven hours in previous versions, and has stronger defenses against prompt injection attacks, which try to trick the AI into doing something harmful. Safety has improved as well, with the model showing fewer risky behaviors like deception or telling users only what they want to hear. Moreover, Kaplan added that more updates could arrive before the end of the year.
