American Water Works Proposes Two-Step Rate Hike in Illinois

American Water Works (AWK) has released an update.

Illinois-American Water Company filed for new water and wastewater rates with the Illinois Commerce Commission, proposing a two-step rate increase to generate additional revenue based on a return on equity of 10.75%. The increases are scheduled for January 1, 2025, and January 1, 2026, and are linked to the company’s capital investments of approximately $557 million planned from January 2024 through December 2025. The proposal includes a rider for environmental compliance investments and an adjustment to the volume balancing account mechanism. Approval by the ICC is pending, with new rates expected to be implemented in early 2025.
