D-Wave Quantum’s Slide Has Traders Watching Closely

D-Wave Quantum ( (QBTS) ) has fallen by -14.26%. Read on to learn why.

D-Wave Quantum shares fell 14.26% over the past week, extending a tough year for the quantum computing specialist. The stock has been caught in a sector-wide selloff after rival IonQ announced a large $2 billion equity raise alongside a $1.3 billion all-stock acquisition, which spooked investors about potential dilution across the industry. Those broader worries are piling onto D-Wave’s own issues, including a recent second-quarter earnings miss and the sudden departure of its CFO, raising questions about cash burn, leadership stability, and the company’s path to profitability.

At the same time, macroeconomic pressures are weighing on sentiment. Hotter-than-expected inflation data has pushed investors away from high-growth, cash-burning tech names like D-Wave Quantum, reinforcing the “Sell” technical signal now attached to the stock. Year to date, the shares are down sharply, and traders are increasingly focused on execution risk, the possibility of future funding needs, and the volatility created by lumpy revenue from large system deliveries. These factors have kept many risk-averse investors on the sidelines, despite recent news of strategic agreements and new installations.

Yet the story is not entirely negative. D-Wave Quantum continues to expand its presence in Europe, with its Advantage2 annealing quantum computer arriving in Lombardy, Italy, to serve the Q-Alliance ecosystem and provide production-grade quantum computing access to local researchers and businesses. The company reports growing use of its systems in real, repeatable production workloads, a rising backlog of contracted work, and momentum in cloud-based quantum services—elements that could eventually support more stable, subscription-like revenue. Bullish options activity, with call trading running three times normal levels ahead of November earnings, suggests some traders are positioning for a rebound if D-Wave can prove it can scale more consistently and manage its finances more tightly.
