Warren Buffett, the legendary CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B), announced in a letter to shareholders on Monday that he will no longer write his famous annual letters or speak at the company’s annual meetings. His 2025 letter, published in February, was his 60th and final edition. At Berkshire’s annual meeting in May, Buffett officially recommended Vice Chair Greg Abel as his successor, and the board approved the decision two days later. As a result, Abel will take over as CEO on January 1, 2026.

“I will no longer be writing Berkshire’s annual report or talking endlessly at the annual meeting,” Buffett wrote. Still, now at 95 years old, Buffett plans to keep some traditions alive. For instance, he will continue to publish a Thanksgiving message each year and stay in touch with a few individual shareholders. Buffett also revealed that he is speeding up the process of donating his Berkshire shares to four family foundations.
Importantly, Buffett made it clear that his decision to accelerate his donations is not because he’s less confident in Berkshire’s future. In fact, he praised Greg Abel for exceeding expectations and said he fully trusts him to lead the company forward. Moreover, Buffett ended his letter with advice for investors. More specifically, he urged them to “get the right heroes and copy them.” He also reminded readers to appreciate the opportunities America provides, even if success isn’t always distributed fairly, writing, “You will never be perfect, but you can always be better.”
