Remember a while back, when some enterprising souls looked at the new gold fixtures in the White House and thought, that looks a lot like an item sold at home improvement giant Home Depot (HD)? President Trump recently talked about those items, and revealed that the appearance may look similar, but the fixtures are not Home Depot. The news did nothing to help Home Depot stock, meanwhile, as shares slipped modestly in Wednesday morning’s trading.

Back then, President Trump noted that he had brought in his “gold guy” to handle some of the fixture work in the White House, producing some genuinely impressive pieces. But a closer look at the pieces in question suggested a lot of similarity between the fixtures in the White House and a polyurethane applique from Ekena Millwork painted gold. Side-by-side comparisons released at the time did certainly bear close resemblance.
But Trump himself, when taking Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on a tour, noted “No, this is not Home Depot stuff. This is not Home Depot.” Ingraham asked him outright if this was the case, and Trump came right out and said it was not. Ingraham later posted, “In the Oval Office with President Trump and can confirm that it is REAL gold!”
Black Friday Deals Expand
Give Home Depot credit; it is not waiting for you to digest your turkey before offering up the Black Friday deals. Indeed, it is running Black Friday specials all the way up to the big event, and even beyond; reports suggest the Black Friday sales will run clear through Cyber Monday and all the way to December 3.
A range of smart home devices will be on hand, from outdoor cameras to smart thermostats. Those in the market for new tools will find buy-one-get-one deals from DeWalt, as well as a free tool with purchase of a battery. Just to top it off, remember that Christmas tree ad campaign we talked about yesterday? Home Depot is now offering free delivery on Christmas trees, whether real or merely artificial.
Is Home Depot a Good Long-Term Buy?
