Tyson Viriginia factory closure raises antitrust concerns, Reuters reports

Tyson Foods’ move to give chicken suppliers two months notice of its intention to shut down a Virginia processing factory in May has raised concerns among farmers and legal experts about the company’s compliance with antitrust regulations mandating that it provide 90 days notice before terminating a contract, Reuters’ Leah Douglas and Tom Polansek report. The planned shuttering of the plant has left dozens of Virginia chicken growers scrambling to find new buyers in an area with few other options and could also expose Tyson to fines under the Packers and Stockyards Act, a law mandating minimum advance warning, the authors note.
