Citi thinks Tesla’s (TSLA) analyst day comments that it could sell 20M battery electric vehicles by 2030 are "very bullish" for the lithium industry, "even if you take a haircut to the assumptions." The comments at face value could imply as much as 23% lithium demand growth annually to 2030, higher than Citi’s current 17% forecast, the analyst tells investors in a research note. Citi says Tesla’s comments are positive for lithium names Albemarle (ALB), SQM (SQM), Livent (LTHM) and Li-Cycle (LICY).
