Public prosecutors in Minas Gerais, Brazil are suing AngloGold Ashanti, seeking about $9.91M in damages after the gold miner allegedly withheld expert advice from authorities suggesting a lack of stability in one of its dams, Reuters’ Marta Nogueira reports, citing a document. The suit also requests several additional safety measures and claims that "twice in 2022 the defendant had robust technical studies, prepared by specialized consultants hired by the company, which indicated the absence of stability in the dam" in Nova Lima and that it decided not to publish them, the author notes.
